TREE MANAGEMENTSpecial Board Meeting  tomorrow(8/9)at 11:00am

A special Board Meeting is scheduled for tomorrow at 11am (August 9th), in the Masters Lounge, to discuss the Tree management.  This will be an opportunity for all homeowners to discuss this topic and any other topics of concern.  If you are on the property please attend in person and if you are not present attend by Zoom.

Reasons to attend:

  • Tree removal has already started without a board approved plan, funding or a contract

  • Find out what trees are being cut down and who is making these decisions

  • See if the fruit trees near your property will be cut down

  • Ask the Board about its plans for replacing trees that are cut down

  •  Seasonal homeowners need to be aware of their trees being removed  before their Fall return. It will be too late to ask for any trees to be spared

  • What are the costs and where  are the funds coming from

Please attend !!!

The first concern that should be raised is whether or not this project was approved by our Board by way of an open HOA meeting vote. The second concern is cost and how recent ANY quotes we have for this project.

The third concern we should express is why healthy citrus trees NOT identified to be destroyed are.

Fourth concern is who is in charge of this project.....PROFESSIONALS or a committee of homeowners that may or may not be qualified to oversee this project?

I am in favor of the old ugly pepper trees being cut down as well as others. We also have too many Citrus trees, and I have had rats on my roof! Not a good experience. Thank you,

We had our tree pruned to remove branches overhanging our roof a couple of seasons ago. They did a great job for us and we've had no problems with rats at all. (8 years). One of the reasons we were drawn to Desert Princess, 10 years ago, was the citrus trees. We enjoy fresh orange juice and fresh grapefruit, lemons and have met many of our neighbors picking and sharing fruit! We believe it is an unnecessarily aggressive plan to cut so many trees!

We just arrived today and four very large citrus trees loaded with fruit had been removed from our entrance! To late to stop the chop the trees are gone and it looks terrible.

Are they cutting down ALL of the citrus trees? Who do we call to find out ? I like my perfectly healthy lemon tree that acts as a divider between my patio and the neighbors.

For those of you who did not attend or zoom the board meeting today, the board stated that the citrus trees that were removed will be replaced. That is an admission from the board that the excuse for removing the fruit trees was not reasonable or warranted. The board also stated that no citrus trees were removed that were not flagged. This is not true. Three trees in our back yard were flagged and removed. The Meyers lemon tree was not flagged but was removed as well. Hope they are being more truthful about the replacement trees.

Based on scientific research, shade trees lower home energy consumption (a/c) by as much as 15%. And the area under a tree can be as much 25% cooler than the ambient temperature. Thus, the HOA plans to remove a large percentage of Desert Princess' tree canopy is a disaster of momentous and permanent proportion. Has professional pruning, insect treatment, root preservation, and tree management been utilized to save these trees? What are the HOA plans to compensate homeowners for loss of property value and increased energy usage due to removal of their shade trees?

The arrogance and tone deaf governance of DP bythis current Board knows no bounds. We are essentially a multi-million dollar Corporation that lacks the expertise in managing a resort community. Add to that a Property Management firm that does not manage anything similar to DP and frankly we are witnessing the extraordinary damage created in a perfect storm. The Board admitted they failed to even formally approve the carnage, doing so long after many trees were sacrificed....for what??? The egos of the great WE CAN DO WHATEVER WE LIKE?

Just received notice that our rental fee is $350 AGAIN. Last year it was rationalized that DP needed funding for a new vehicle and another patrol person. What are we funding this year ? As a homeowner who has rented our home for years we have never had any complaints about our tenants. All our tenants actively contribute revenue to DP, yet we are being penalized for having tenants ?

Okay.
We see the daily pictures of the "hazardous" trees.
BUT
When will we see the budget or the actual cost of this "life saving" project?
AND
What is the "projected" cost and schedule of the replacements?
