Positive Changes at Desert Princess Country Club

The Blog has been criticized for only addressing negative topics.  This Blog topic will address positive changes at Desert Princess Country Club.

For example:

Here are the changes we have seen instituted by our new Golf Pro.

  • Staggering the annual Fall golf course closings(reseeding) to allow members and the public to continue playing.  This has a positive impact on revenues.

  • Raising golf fees to generate additional income.  A step toward rates that are comparable with other courses in the Coachella Valley.

  • Cleaning up the Pro Shop, bringing in modern merchandise and adding branded products that promote Desert Princess Country Club.

  • Making reservations available with online golf booking sites. This will generate additional revenue.

Now is your chance to add your own positive comments on changes you have seen in our community.

The Blog would like to hear your thoughts.

As an owner for the past 25 years and an avid golfer it’s a welcome and refreshing news to hear of the potential new changes being made to the pro shop!
Wishing great success to the new crew and hopefully there will also be a major change in the attitude towards the homeowners!! Thanks

Yes, Rodney is making several positive changes. Good to have a Pro bringing us forward to more modern times.

After many years of an apathetic golf pro who was more interested in 5 card hold em than driving revenue, we finally have found a professional. Now, I wouldn't know the golf pro if I tripped over him but he apparently is doing an excellent job. So, kudos to him. I am usually very critical of all things operational on the property but in this case I have to agree. Business acumen is very important and our current golf pro understands that. I'm happy you are here. You are obviously a human who is serious about your business.

Great start. In the summer would love to see them offer some carts for weekly/monthly rental for residents. They need to go back to renting carts that can stay out until sunset all year. They've lost our greens fees because carts have to be back by 2 pm. We just play elsewhere. Very disappointing not to be able to play our home course.

Yes, Rodney should be given a pay increase for all of these positive changes. He has even more changes to coming as well. Can't wait to try the new bunkers on Lagos.

The golf courses were one of the "reasons" that encouraged me to live at DPCC.

Would look forward to hearing from other residents, especially full-time residents, with a goal of forming/establishing a "resident" committee that would address issues in a positive manner to the Board/Management etc.

While not a full-time resident, I applaud the formation of an owners committee that includes full-time, seasonal and rental owners. The problem we've experienced in recent years is divisive policies at DP that have resulted in anger within our community. All owners are entitled to equal considerations.

Yes, I agree...all would be welcomed. Full-time residents get a "bigger" picture of the overall operations than most others. For example, a full-time resident would easily recognize the issues related to "speeding drivers," gardening/landscaping practices, security operations, etc.
Seasonal/rental owners, I am quite sure, are experiencing a whole set of other issues facing them with regard to rental/vacation activities as well as issues involving full-time residents.
Any idea on how to get "people" here together---talking---gaining some sort of positive dialogue with the mysterious "people" who run/oversee operations of DPCC. I, for one, cannot figure out just "who is who" at the HOA office. Communications to the Board seems intentionally difficult and elusive.

It is positive that the Board is attempting to address longer-standing problems such as the need to remove trees and adopt improved water use strategies. Unfortunately, many of these efforts increase costs. Nevertheless, they need to be addressed strategically. It is good that attempts are in place to do this.

I was so pleased to see a positive comment in this blog, it’s been awhile in coming. I am not a golfer, but came from a golfing family, so I understand how thrilled the golfers are about the changes in the pro shop. I, also, have been pleased with the fast response my husband and I have gotten from our service requests. Keep up the good work.

The preview to this blog talks about the almost one million dollars being spent for upgrading the fitness room for $400,000 with almost zero income to service or pay down the expenditure, and $500,00 to update the patio area at the clubhouse.( Insert your own conclusion.)

The garage fire here a few days ago points out clearly where money actually NEEDS to be spent. The power went out in my garage complex last year because the electrical breaker was inoperable because of its age. It was an original breaker installed when the garage's was wired for power. The DP person dealing with this situation wanted to put the old breaker back in the disconnect. I strongly disagreed with him. He did not have access to a new breaker or authority to purchase one, so he installed a USED breaker which was a similar part which appeared to be of similar age.

It is very possibe that the recent garage fire was caused by an electrical load in the garage coupled with an old inoperable breaker that did not function to cut off the load by the breaker disconnecting. The old wires got hot and started the fire most likely. Our garages are not safe from electrical fires because of the age of the breakers and the fact that the garages only have ONE 20 amp breaker for, in our case, 10 garages. They need to be brought up to code to make our garages safe. This is an example of where our money NEEDS to be spent.

It's amazing what happens when you actually start running a business AS a business and hire business people to do it.
