10/12/2020 5 Comments Planning the HOA FutureThe Covid 19 outbreak has exposed the fact of how fragile our finances are. We are not like the US Federal Government that can print money
to stimulate the economy. Our board has focused on reducing expenses and limiting services to cope with budget shortfalls. As this pandemic drags on, we need to prioritize planned future expenses, continue to eliminate unnecessary expenses, re-assess existing contracts with both vendors and employees and focus on generating additional revenue. In other words, instead of treating the HOA as a "Country Club", we need to treat the HOA as a viable business and focus on reducing our reliance on homeowners subsidies? What are your thoughts?

Perhaps someone on our board should contact someone on the board of Four Season (top of Sunrise) Last year as a resident I paid $290 in HOA fees (no golf course) but they had great grounds (skimpy flowers however) and a street sweeper at least twice a month. We paid to have our trash collected and NO cable. We might be able to gain some knowledge from their board.

As an ER nurse who has cared for Covid19 patients since Feb (and lost a parent to covid), I can tell you it is not going away any time soon and we could be facing another shutdown which financially impacts us all. I work very hard for my money and the HOA dues have gone up 5 times in the 3 years I have owned here. I totally agree that we need to streamline expenses where ever possible maintains what is necessary. This is the duty and the obligation of the HOA board, to spend OUR money responsibly and judiciously.

I think the above comments are super. I agree there should be a short term and long term planning. Board members should be able to envision and lead change to create a realistic vision and budget to support it. That said I think any department within Desert Princess should be self sustaining financially. I also think the HOA should consider a vineyard and an organic farm. One trip to Temecula and you will see the booming business there! Even in the heat. The culture of rest and relaxation, fun, music fits in perfectly with the Desert Princess lifestyle. Seems to be enjoyed by young adults and old. Also think a collaboration with the Indians around the new Casino will present many opportunities to move into the future. Also there should be a commitment to not convert the golf course/s to high density living centers or units.

I would like to see the F&B operation leased out to a third party; stop the restaurant and bar losses.
