hAS THE Board SETUP A reCALL FOR pETER wEBB?

Norm Stoehr our HOA Board Vice President just sent out a notice to all homeowners.

In case you are not on his mailing list the content of this email is shown below:

"Our property values, community reputation and general appearance have never been better.
             What else matters?

The haters will hate, no matter what.
Vote them mute. Vote NO to recalling Board President Peter Webb.

            Thank you."

  • Has any homeowner received official notification of a recall election?

  • Do you believe this is appropriate for a board member to call homeowners "haters"?

  • Is this a violation of the ethics policy of the DPPS HOA (i.e misrepresentation, lack of proper decorum, etc.)?

  • Are there any Board members that will sanction Norm, or are they all in agreement with him?

I was a tad surprised to receive the email as I did not know there was a formal recall in place.

I tripped upon the recall because of "other" issues regarding the general maintenance of the property. It seems as though "this blog" is the only effective method to communicate with one another...here at DPCC.

There has to be a better way for "all of us" to share our thoughts with one another. This blog does help but -----I think we should look into a more open community website.

We just purchased a condo in December 2020 and have been there off and on. We really have had no complaints about anyone in the HOA except Fran and we are glad she is gone. There have also been complaints about Rand in the pro shop and neither my wife nor I have had any problems with anyone in the pro shop or the restaurant. Everyone seems extremely friendly and accepting of the newbies.

My husband thinks the same of Rand, I don't go in the shop so I don't know but my husband would call it right. Rand is unfriendly and very abrupt with customers. Who needs that?

Yes, I was bothered by the tone of Mr. Stoehr's email. I thought it was rife with hypocrisy, and I don't want to receive those types of communications from elected members of the board. I requested I be unsubscribed to his email list, as I don't need to receive those types of messages. Name calling is never appropriate.

The email is totally inappropriate and very unprofessional. What would be appropriate is if he would take a look in the mirror.

I received his email and I was surprised to learn of a "recall election". I also found his referral to those who disagree as being "haters" as inappropriate, as his photo.

When are people gonna get wise to this “Good ‘Ol Boy” Society we have running our HOA ? Remember “Silence is Acceptance” and if people just ignore this kind of behavior it will keep on happening. Maybe a Lawyer familiar with these kinds of tactics such as intimidation & Bullying needs to be contacted ? It’s quite obvious with the Secret BOD meetings and lack of Transparency to all Desert Princess Homeowners that these individuals think they are above the Law. Word is already getting around the Coachella Valley that Desert Princess is NOT the place to live which in turn will affect Home values and diminish the Quality of Life here. We’ve been here 5 years now and this is the 3rd time HOA Dues have been increased. You can only blame the Covid for so long then they’ll find something else to try and blame on the increases. Webb & his “Boys” have everybody hoodwinked into believing their word is Gospel & it is a total joke !!

I am not sure where we are in regards to recalling Peter but I hope we don’t proceed. It cost us (homeowners) to fund a recall. I think the last one cost about $15,000 plus.
One of the comments against Peter, was he hasn’t been on the property for 18 months. Of course, he hadn’t…due to COVID lots of homeowners haven’t been to DP in the last 18 months.
Can you imagine being voted in as a volunteer to just hear negative comments?! Albeit, the minority, it gets old! It’s a wonder anyone would volunteer to run.

Hi Randie, just as a point of reference, the recall is a cost of $6,000 and our HOA Board spends $6,000 every 5 hours!! Spending $6,000 now to stop the bleeding is a drop in the bucket. If you look at things like $15,000 to have a "concept drawing" done by an architect for a patio extension at the restaurant for fire pits, the recall is a minor cost to our HOA in my opinion.

I do agree with you that the last 18 months and COVID has prevented many people from coming to the property due to travel restrictions.

The e-mail from Norm where he calls some homeowners "haters" is what homeowners can expect these days from the board. We homeowners pay the bills and simply want to be treated with a modicum of respect instead of outright contempt. Disagreeing with the dictatorial and contemptuous treatment and performance of the board does not make homeowners "haters." Homeowners have a vested interest in the success of Desert Princess, financially and other wise. If DP goes down a lot of homeowners will go down with it. The board legally owes the community a fiduciary responsibility to protect stakeholders funds and to be civil when a homeowner has questions about how his or her money is being utilized. Time to put on your big boy pants and stop power tripping. People don't appreciate being talked down to. There are a few toxic people on the board that set a bad example and create much of the dissention.

Recall Norm! As an elected board member he should not use his position or the HOA’s email list to degrade and impugn the homeowners of DPCC. We all pay our HOA fees and expect those fees to be properly and efficiently. Are they just blind to poor management of the HOA? This board is out of control. They should all resign or face recall!

I have been reading all of the hateful comments for the last few months on mydesertprincessblog.com about the DPCC Board president, and now Mr. Stoehr. Do you see the irony? The people on this blog are complaining about the HOA increases, and now you want a recall that will cost all of us $12-$14,000 because you do not like the way they talk to you in the HOA meetings. All of these people on the B.O.D. VOLUNTEER their personal time for all of us. It is easy to set behind a keyboard and complain. Life is short, and it is sad to see all of this going on here DPCC....it is only money....how much time do you have left?

It’s only money ? Really ? My Dues have increased over $2400/yr since we purchased 5 years ago. We’re on a Fixed Income. Maybe YOU have money to burn but We don’t. This might be $$$ I want to leave to my kids. This Board has not answered many questions posed by Homeowners for several years. They always hide behind quoting the Sterling Act & it’s Rules & Regulations on privacy. Who’s, Theirs ?
When you’re blatantly secretive publicly about DPCC Issues and then pretty-much say “we don’t have to tell you” it’s something that makes homeowners wonder where & why our Dues increase and definately cause suspicion as-to the integrity of this Board. Transparency should be paramount when discussing matters pertaining to Desert Princess when those Homeowners pay out over $8000/per yr. for those HOA Dues.

"It's only money." What?
Tammy do you think it's appropriate that Mr. Stoehr call concerned homeowners in this community, who by the way pay the bills, "Haters." That it's OK for Peter to dismissively and contemptously address the owners during BOD meetings? (BTW, I have many Canadian friends here - Covid is not an excuse for him not being here.) If this was a public company they'd be fired. They think they're running the community for the enjoyment of their pals. Rumors of a $5M special assessment to "beautify DPCC" are looming. According to my Paul Kaplan realtor, word is getting around the real estate community that this board is creating a nightmare scenario for owners. THAT won't improve values, despite the current increase in values due to low inventory and low interest rates.
I bought my condo 2 yrs ago and moved in a year ago. I'm appalled at the misfeasance of this board. (except Bill Bergstrom, from what I can gather).
Have some respect.

Hi Tammy, a recall actually cost in the neighborhood of $6,000 and just as a reference point if you look at our budget, this HOA Board spends $6,000 EVERY 5 hours! Maybe you don't care about money from your post, but there are many in our community that do. Have you read our budget or attended a recent BOD meeting? It is extremely eye opening and I highly encourage ALL homeowners to log into ZOOM.

$6,000 now to stop the open checkbook spending to enhance a private country club for a few has to stop. This country club needs to be profitable and self sufficient and candidly I believe should be offsetting our HOA dues. It is more than possible with the right people in place and it starts with our BOD who are actually officers to a business, which is the country club which is draining our HOA.

...have never received any information/contact about a recall.
I went to the HOA office today and was told the I could not get a list of directors but was given a generic email address...let's see what happens.
I am looking to meet with a "director" so that I can show him/her in real time the several issues and activities which are seriously impacting the health and safety of "all" residents....am not "holding my breath" on this one.
Lastly, for any director/resident to imply, infer or state that any resident(s) who has serious issues with the "Trust" or "HOA" et al is a "hater" is absurd...and should recuse themselves from the Board.

Really, Mr. Malisos? That's what our HOA told you when you went to the Admin office and asked for a list of the board directors? How appalling!

And to be given that stupid [email protected] email address to reach each director is shameful. Emails to that address are lucky to be seen by anyone besides Peter Webb, the director who is supossedly being recalled but no one knows about it even though there was a secret executive meeting earlier this week to discuss the "Recall" according to the HOA's announcement of the executive session, and the master "hater" himself Norm Stoehr, who attended that secret meeting and who obviously has insider's information about a Recall, plus the CEO of our HOA, Jerry Storage, who should be working for the benefit of the homeowners and not kowtowing to the board..

If someone volunteers to be on a committee or a board of directors or any other activity in our Homeowners Association they should be open to communication from the homeowners they serve. If they don't want a personal email address released to the public, then they should be smart enough to set up a "volunteer" email account for themselves where they can receive email from the constituents they represent and serve...those who elected them to the board.

Yo...board members...stop hiding. No one twisted your arm to make you volunteer. You volunteered yourself and most certainly had to know what it was like to work in a volunteer capacity. And if you didn't and went in as a babe in arms, then by now you should have learned "on the job" that it's not all ice cream and sprinkles.

So for Mr. Stoehr to publish his "mute the haters" email is only testimony of the kind of hatred that man must harbor for all people to whom he beilieves he is superior...and that is obviously the homeowners of the Desert Princess..

Mr. Malisos, since the HOA doesn't disseminate all emails to all directors, here are the email addresses of each board member. As you can see Ms. Swartz and Mr. Bergstrom were smart enough to set up an alternate email address for themselves for their volunteer business of the Desert Princess and both have oftentimes published their email addresses. Perhaps the others don't mind receiving emails on their personal accounts and that is their prerogative, but here is the information you couldn't get from the people we pay to run the HOA.

Peter Webb, president [email protected] lives in Canada
Norm Stoehr, VP [email protected] lives on property full time
Russ Holowachuk, treasurer [email protected] lives in Canada
Terri Swartz, secretary [email protected] lives on property full time
Bill Bergstrom, director [email protected] lives on property full time
Bob Mangold, director [email protected] lives on property full time
Toshie Sweeney, director [email protected] primary residence is LA/Orange County

I would like to remind Norm Stoehr that what he does as a homeowner reflects on him as a board member and visa versa. The email sent out by Norm was completely uncalled for and unethical as a homeowner/board member. If Norm feels that way about the homeowners at Desert Princess Palm Springs maybe he should resign. What else matters? That all homeowners are shown respect, allowed to speak freely and there is transparency within the community. That’s what matters!!

Sorry, Norm Stoehr, but I disagree with you. Of the three homes we’ve owned, the appreciation on this one is the least by FAR. Am I a “hater”? I resent that you’d consider anyone with an opinion other than your own a “hater” or anything else. How unprofessional of you!

As for the cluck we get for our buck, it’s a LOT less than what we signed on for 17 years ago. In-house landscaping was by far superior to this outsourced company. Why should I have to call to remind them of all that they did NOT do after they leave? I’ve given up and just go out and take care of all that they’ve forgotten myself. In-house used to come every two weeks and the place looked great. Now, it’s once a month, poorly maintained and looks like crap. I have pictures of the house we bought in 2004 and you can compare those with the disgrace it’s become. I would NEVER have accepted what it is now. They don’t even understand that they should keep all dryer vents accessible in the front yards as well as the electrical boxes. We had to turn off our electric when doing some work and couldn’t access the box because the neighbor’s shrubs completely covered the box. This should be a no-brainer and I’m sure is a hazard. Can’t clean the dryer vents; can’t access electrical panel. What next? Is that what I bought into? Nope! Same with Dewey spraying the outside of our homes. That’s stopped and we’ve been told that “it was a mistake” all along! Seriously. When we bought we were told it was included, so if it was a “mistake” then the DP should eat it!

We were also told that we could convert to desertscape at our own expense to save water and maintenance. Seriously? Who’s saving $$$$? The DP is, not us, so why doesn’t the DP offer to convert it?

As for Spectrum. Do we really NEED two DVR boxes or HBO and Showtime? Most folks stream or use Netflix, Amazon Prime, Discovery Plus, and on and on and on. Did we have a vote on this? Nope. “Someone” decided this is what we all need.

Seriously, Mr. Stoehr, I am NOT a hater; just a realist with eyes wide open. Shame on you for this disgraceful email!!!! Vote “them” mute????? There are names for people who like to mute others. You can find them in history books.

People your forgetting that the wolf in sheep’s clothing is Jerry Storage and the mgmt trust. Jerry’s right there with the board and pretends he’s for the us. He too doesn’t want to be accountable. Don’t be fooled. The recall must take place and clean house all the way. We all have a choice, be part of the solution and recall or do nothing and be part of the problem. It takes a village to stand united together.

It's so sad that we all have to "bother" with people like Norm whom I feel that he does not even respect.....himself. I wonder what would happen if we all send in the amount that we feel is the right amount for us to pay? Are they going to fine us? And then what if we do not pay the fines? Are they going to come and get our homes? Really? Since when we are living in the former Soviet Union?
I personally trust one board member and that person is Terri Swartz. I am not friends with her but the few times we have communicated she has been cordial and professional. And I am sure that even if she has better ideas and solutions for the homeowners, she would hit a wall trying to present them.
This is really a joke. We are not haters Norm. We are hard working (worked) homeowners that do not like to pay for things that are not necessary and / or usable (i.e patio at the grill).
My last comment is that if few Board Members do not feel the ....LOVE just resign and leave us alone instead of calling us names. Can't you see that things are not getting better and your behavior fuels such feeling?
And it is getting little old to bring up all the time that these people are volunteers. So what? Did anyone forced them to run for a position?
TIME FOR A CHANGE...
