Do Homeowners Want In-person Meetings?

Last night a letter was sent out to homeowners. This letter made the point that once the mask mandate expires this Tuesday and in-person meeting can resume again.

The blog would like to know the following:

  • Do homeowners want in-person meetings again?

  • Should chats, board meetings and town halls be in-person?

  • If the board does not want in-person gatherings then why are there multiple in-person events scheduled for this month at the Country Club?

At this point in time the chat is the only forum where homeowners have the opportunity to participate in an open two-way conversation with board members.

Homeowners will have the opportunity at today’s Chat to ask board members their personal opinions on resuming in-person meetings.

The link and dial in numbers for the chat is shown below.

Surely we can offer both options.....Zoom and in-person. Using the pandemic as the reason for not having in-person owners' meetings is bogus and borders on cowardice. If our dining room is open for any number of other events, it's time we get back to business like the rest of this country.

It can be both. Hybrid meetings happen all the time.

Its time to get back to normal operations. Lockdowns, mandates, masks and social distancing do not work. There are peer reviewed studies to prove it. Quit hiding behind the greatest crime(scam) of the century..."the pandemic". Quit living in fear and parania and start living life the way it is meant to be.

David,
Your so called greatest crime (scam) of the of the century, the pandemic, is completely bogus. Over 900,000 Americans alone could provide proof of that but of course you could not hear from them because they are dead, just like your brain. That probably explains why you are a moron who spreads misinformation.

Zoom and in person option would be great for those of us who aren’t there year round

Well folks, we received our answer today.....the Board "decree" essentially states the HOA meetings will continue to be conducted via Zoom and they would START working on a hybrid meeting format (in-person and Zoom combination). Think about it. 2 years of COVID and they're just NOW considering a meeting format to accommodate our community's emergence from the pandemic.

This Board lacks any degree of proactive behavior that would benefit the owners. Thank God they at least REACT to this community blog. They only issued this advisory after well deserved criticism about hiding behind computer screens long after necessary. Many owners believe this is by design by the Board because it suits THEM, not the owners.

This blog also addressed the crime wave in Desert Princess and lack of open, transparent communication of the exact nature of the crimes being perpetrated so we can at least try to protect ourselves. These Board actions, quite frankly fall into the too little too late category, but it's better than the dead air we were receiving in the past few years.

Bravo to this community blog and to all the owners who by sharing their experiences, ideas and concerns are slowly but surely dragging this Board into a modicum of leadership, not the dictatorship to which we have sadly become accustomed to.

Re: Requirements for mask wearing indoors. The CDPH rules in effect as of Feb 16, 2022. DO NOT require PROOF of vaccination. Vaccinated persons may attest to their vaccinated status. From the directive:

“Provide information to all patrons, guests and attendees regarding vaccination requirements and allow vaccinated individuals to self-attest that they are in compliance prior to entry. “

The HOA and the Country Club/ Mountain View Grille/ Pro Shop are under NO REQUIREMENT to obtain proof of vaccination from members.

Please rescind this onerous, insulting rule immediately. Virtually everyone at DPCC is already vaccinated, and boosted, etc., etc. Please, can we just move on!
Sincerely, Provide information to all patrons, guests and attendees regarding vaccination requirements and allow vaccinated individuals to self-attest that they are in compliance prior to entry.

HOA board meetings are governed by the “Common Interest Development Open Meeting Act” found in California Civil Code Sections 4900 through 4955. The Open Meeting Act contains requirements that:
• Require the HOA to give notice of the time and place of board meetings and to post an agenda of items to be discussed. If an open board meeting is to be held by teleconference, the notice of the meeting must identify a physical location so that members of the association may attend, and at least one director or a person designated by the board must be present at that location.
• Set forth the rights of members to attend, observe and speak at open board meetings.
• Set forth the rights of members to bring a civil action against the association for violations of the Open Meeting Act.

The Desert Princess Board of Directors violated the Open Meeting Act by conducting its January 2022 meetings by Zoom only. It is continuing to do what it chooses regardless of the law by announcing that the February 25 open board meetings and the February 26 annual general meeting and election will also be available by Zoom only.
As members of the association whose rights to attend and speak at these meetings are blatantly being denied by those who were elected to represent us, our one recourse is to bring a civil action against the association and those Board members to regain our rights as HOA members under the law.

See you in court.

Kudos Malcolm! At the very least you alarmed and finally shamed the Board and HOA management into addressing the issue of open meetings vs. in-person, accountable gatherings. It is interesting to note that as California, with the exception of a few jurisdictions, is eliminating previous COVID measures, the Board are relying on rather outdated state measures to continue to rule behind the cloak of technology. Sad that.

On another note, immediately following the election, I do hope this blog takes up the issue populating our community committees. It is high time new volunteers are afforded the opportunity to participate in the governance of Desert Princess, volunteers who have so much to offer. It's about time these committees cease to be in-house fraternities, open only to those who know the Board elites and the secret "good old boys" handshake to be considered for committee membership.

A notice was sent to the owners soliciting applications for all the community committees last week, as is the case every year. Also as is the case, the majority of applicants NEVER hear another word after applying.......why wouldn't we interview applicants, owners that bring exceptional skill sets to our community? Is it because the Board CHOOSES to continue to retain exclusivity in these committees for their buddies? Buddies who can build the case to support their policies and agendas? Makes you wonder.
